Council of Elders

South Loop Community Church (SLCC) is an elder-led ministry.

Thomas Kubiak - tkubiak@southloopcc.org

Tom, the founding pastor and preaching elder of SLCC, is native to the city of Chicago and has a strong passion for ministry to the needs of urban dwellers. His heart beats strongly for sound teaching of Holy Scripture, people living authentically in Christian community, equipping and empowering people to be on mission with God, genuine integration ethnically, socio-economically, and generationally, and having a meaningful God-honoring impact on the neighborhood. Tom and his wife, Joanna, have been married 25 years and have three (3) adult children—all of whom graduated from Jones College Prep in the South Loop, where Tom volunteered much time and energy for nine (9) years.
Tom is a fan of all Chicago sports teams (except the Cubs), fond of 60s-70s muscle cars, and still enjoys softball, biking, weightlifting, or racquetball.
Tom has a Master of Divinity degree from Denver Baptist Theological Seminary and has done doctoral work at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School of Deerfield, IL. One of his favorite verses is Galatians 2:20 – “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (NLT).

Mark Lockett - mlockett@southloopcc.org (Chairman)

Pastor Mark lives and longs for the manifestation of the glorious presence of the Son of God, revealing His power and purpose through His chosen people. He believes in the power of urgent and sincere prayer. He anticipates the day that the Church finds true unity across racial, ethnic and class diversity.
Mark and his beautiful wife, Leah currently live in the Bridgeport neighborhood (Southwest of Downtown Chicago). He is a graduate of the Moody Bible Institute and has much love for all Chicago sports teams (including the White Sox). He presently serves as chairman of the Council of Elders.
"I (Christ) am the Vine. You (Church) are the branches. He that abides in Me, and I in Him, the same shall bring forth much fruit. But without Me, you can do nothing" - John 15:5

Jalon Chan - jchan@southloopcc.org

On October 30, 2011, SLCC commissioned the Chans as urban church planting missionaries in their neighborhood of Bronzeville. Pastor Jalon is devoting himself full-time to reproduce the church via missional communities under the authority and oversight of SLCC's Council of Elders. Jalon has a passion for missional ministry in the heart of Chicago, and longs to be apart of an empowered church body that advances the Kingdom of God in the city.
Pastor Jalon and his wife, Jenny, live in the Bronzeville neighborhood with their son Jaxon. He is an ardent Bulls, Bears, and White Sox fan, even during the many seasons of “rebuilding.”
Pastor Jalon graduated from the Moody Bible Institute and has done work towards a Master of Divinity from the Moody Seminary and Graduate School.
