Core Values of SLCC

The Five Pillars of South Loop Community Church

When SLCC was established in 2000 AD, we sensed the need to establish several foundational points that would become the "pillars" of this church. We believe that these core values are entirely consistent with the biblical pattern for church ministry and are pleasing to God. These pillars serve as priorities that are equal in emphasis and unchanging in duration.

The pillars, or core values, of the Jerusalem Church in 1st century Israel:

  • We value expository teaching (Acts 2; esp. 2:42)
  • We value biblical community (Acts 2:42,44-46)
  • We value prayer (Acts 2:42)
  • We value praise and worship (Acts 2:47)
  • We value disciple-making (Acts 2:47)

The pillars of South Loop Community Church in 21st century Chicago:

  • Pillar 1 - We value the expository preaching and teaching of God's Word without apology. (Acts 2:42; 20:24-27; 2 Timothy 4:1-5; Hebrews 4:12)
  • Pillar 2 - We value the power of prayer to accomplish what only God can do. (Jeremiah 33:3; John 15:5; Acts 2:42,43; James 5:16)
  • Pillar 3 - We value sincere, God-focused praise and worship. (Psalm 95:1-7; John 4:23,24; 12:32; Acts 2:46,47; Romans 11:33-36)
  • Pillar 4 - We value thorough, holistic disciple-making. (Matthew 9:36-38; 28:18-20; Acts 2:47; 4:19,20,33; Romans 1:16; 2 Corinthians 5:14-20)
  • Pillar 5 - We value the love, truth and sharing found in biblical community. (Acts 2:42,44-46; 4:31,32; Romans 12:3-5; 1 Corinthians 12:5-7; Philippians 2:1-8)

Conclusion
These are the five pillars or core values of South Loop Community Church. They reveal our point of emphasis in fulfilling our mission and purpose. It is our prayer that the leadership and membership of the church will maintain these priorities with great enthusiasm until the Lord's return.
